Font analysis

The font on this album cover is placed intentionally in order to help symbolise the R&B genre. The gold lettering is symbolic representing the wealth and monetary value of the R&B genre. The lettering 'CHRIS BROWN' is very similar to the artists logo which helps establish a brand image. The same style of lettering appears on every album cover, which presents a sense of continuity from the last album.

This font has a clear link to graffiti art due to the handwritten, clumsy style of the writing. Graffiti is a key part of the R&B genre and is one way in which this album cover follows the genre expectations. The font also highlights her tattoo, bieng the only break in wording, the tattoo again being another key symbol of the R&B genre. This font has a clear link to graffiti art due to the handwritten, clumsy style of the writing. The font to this album vocer comes across as more upper class compared to those of Chris Brown and Rihannas. The white lettering suggests an essence of pureness and resepct around Mariah's character. Perhaps this is due to the positive brand image that she has built up over the years. The use of the words 'Ballads' instead of 'songs' also suggests an element of class around Mariah Carey, an artist that is very much focused towards the elder generation, compared to Chris Brown's appeal towards younger people.
