
What is the pupose of a music video?
Music videos are a marketing tool that record companies set up to make money out of their artiste/brand and to sell the song. Music videos give the singer an identity which allows people to recognise a singers brand and image more.
Other purposes of a music videos is to give the listener a better understanding of the song if it is a narrative. Thirdly, to entertain and to show off other talents the musician may have, for example dancing or acting. Fourthly, to sell CDs and DVDs to viewers and lastly for the marketing purposes and exposure and expansion of the artists profile
An example of a successful music video is Micheal Jacksons 'Thriller' music video. It was seen as the most successful music video by Guinness World Records in 2006, selling over 9 million. In 2009, the video was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, the first music video to ever recieve this honour.
