The artist that I have chosen as a similar text to my artist is Mary J Bilge as her genre is also R&B and soul which is the same as my artist’s genre. Bilge is also a songwriter and a singer which matches with my artist. Although she’s not signed to the same label, the music that she creates is similar too, as most of them are based around love/heartbreaks. In both Mary J Bilges song and Alaras song close up shots are used to quite often so that the audience can read the expressions on the artists face and can understand how they're feeling and will eventually lead the audience to feel the same emotion.
A similarity between the two music videos, is the mise en scene used. Both of the music artists are dressed in a similar ways which could have been used to portray an authortarian independent women.
Mary J Bilge and Alara both use the domestic setting in order to add emphasises on the background reference for the lyrics they have used. Furthermore, the simalritiy is quite evident between both of the scenes within the music videos, as they show a couple arguing and prehaps the effect on the singer reflected in the lyrics. In addition, it could also be aruged that the lighting used in very similar, as Mary J Blige's video is quite dark both the lighting of the room, and the natural light from outside, also my artisits video has been changed to black and white, for the same effect.
Another similar artist to Alara, is rnb singer Jennifer Hudson, who talks about similar life issues in her lyrics, such as heartbreak.
